All K-4 students are working hard at practicing routines to build stamina in reading and writing workshop in the classroom.  Also within reading workshop time, students are being administered initial assessments to help teachers guide beginning of the year instruction.  Assessments include early reading skills such as rhyming and letter identification for kindergarten.  Students in grades 1-4 are taking spelling assessments, as well an assessment that evaluates reading accuracy, fluency, and comprehension.  By the beginning of October, someone from the reading support team will be in contact with you if your child qualifies for Title I reading, writing, or spelling support based on initial assessment results.

Are you looking for ideas of how you can support your child at home this year?    The first HBEC Parent Academy Series event will be taking place on Tuesday, October 15th.  The focus of the evening will be on helping your child at home with Math.  Teachers are busy preparing information and activities to share with families on that evening.  If you are on Face Book, be sure to follow us so that you can receive updates and additional information regarding the series.  All information will also be sent via email throughout the school year.  We look forward to seeing you and your child on October 15th at 6:00!  To read more about the series, visit the following link:
